History on the door step...

riverbeds is located in the heart of glencoe, a place full of myths, legends & history. so, it’s no surprise that we’ve got a few bits of history not so far away from the river.

Here are the 5 bits of history we've discovered...

  • Ballachulish House - The original estate house that dates back to 1640.
  • Ballachulish Slipway – for centuries, was home to the Ballachulish Ferry (the crossing at the narrows). Take a careful look – and see the fastest tidal run of water in Europe!
  • A monument marks the spot where James Stewart of Red Fox fame, was hung for 18 months in 1752
  • The Site of the Appin Murder, where Colin Campbell AKA the Red Fox was killed in 1752
  • A secret neolithic burial chamber just yards from the Clubhouse that dates back to 3,000 years BC
